Term Rewriting Systems as Topological Dynamical Systems

چکیده
Topological dynamics is, roughly, the study of phenomena related to iterations of continuous maps from a metric space to itself. We show how the rewrite relation in term rewriting gives rise to dynamical systems in two distinct, natural ways: (A) One in which any deterministic rewriting strategy induces a dynamical system on the set of finite and infinite terms endowed with the usual metric, and (B) one in which the unconstrained rewriting relation induces a dynamical system on sets of sets of terms, specifically the set of compact subsets of the set of finite and infinite terms endowed with the Hausdorff metric. For both approaches, we give sufficient criteria for the induced systems to be well-defined dynamical systems and for (A) we demonstrate how the classic topological invariant called topological entropy turns out to be much less useful in the setting of term rewriting systems than in symbolic dynamics. 1998 ACM Subject Classification F.1.1 Models of computation, F.4.2 Grammars and other rewrite systems, G.0 General

Entropy operator for continuous dynamical systems of finite topological entropy
In this paper we introduce the concept of entropy operator for continuous systems of finite topological entropy. It is shown that it generates the Kolmogorov entropy as a special case. If $phi$ is invertible then the entropy operator is bounded with the topological entropy of $phi$ as its norm.
متن کاملDynamical distance as a semi-metric on nuclear conguration space
In this paper, we introduce the concept of dynamical distance on a nuclear conguration space. We partition the nuclear conguration space into disjoint classes. This classification coincides with the classical partitioning of molecular systems via the concept of conjugacy of dynamical systems. It gives a quantitative criterion to distinguish dierent molecular structures.
متن کاملConstruction of strict Lyapunov function for nonlinear parameterised perturbed systems
In this paper, global uniform exponential stability of perturbed dynamical systems is studied by using Lyapunov techniques. The system presents a perturbation term which is bounded by an integrable function with the assumption that the nominal system is globally uniformly exponentially stable. Some examples in dimensional two are given to illustrate the applicability of the main results.
متن کاملRELATIVE INFORMATION FUNCTIONAL OF RELATIVE DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS
In this paper by use of mathematical modeling of an observer [14,15] the notion of relative information functional for relative dynamical systemson compact metric spaces is presented. We extract the information function ofan ergodic dynamical system (X,T) from the relative information of T fromthe view point of observer χX, where X denotes the base space of the system. We also generalize the in...
متن کاملGenerative Network Automata: A Generalized Framework for Modeling Adaptive Network Dynamics Using Graph Rewritings
A variety of modeling frameworks have been proposed and utilized in complex systems studies, including dynamical systems models that describe state transitions on a system of fixed topology, and self-organizing network models that describe topological transformations of a network with little attention paid to dynamical state changes. Earlier network models typically assumed that topological tra...
